Graduation Party Checklist

Spring is here, which means graduation party season is just around the corner. If you have a junior high, high school or college grad, chances are you’ve already started thinking about how to celebrate their big day. We know it can be a huge undertaking to plan a graduation party. That’s why we’ve made a list of all of the must-haves to make sure your celebration is worthy of the hard work your grad has put in to get here.

Break out that paper and pen. It’s time to take some notes.

Photo Wall

The best way to celebrate your grad’s journey to a diploma? A photo wall. These collages act as great focal points for friends, family, and other guests to crowd around. They celebrate your graduate’s best achievements, most memorable times, and biggest smiles.

Try stringing several photos to a length of rope or wire. You can also tuck photos into the corners of an old French door or window for a rustic look or even mount the photos in some custom frames. When in doubt, a plastic banner with photos attached can be a great, portable solution for grads who might need to celebrate in more than one place. Plus, when the party’s over, it’s a great souvenir.

Selfie Station

Speaking of photos, you’re going to want a space where people can capture memories of the event. Set up a selfie station, complete with balloons, glitter, and fun props. While you’re at it, make sure it’s comfortable, since the grad will probably be spending their entire time getting pulled into pictures. Drape some fabric and aim the lights so each photo comes out perfect.

Beverage Station

Nothing beats the summer heat like a cool drink. Set up a station with cans of soda and other refreshments. You can also fill beverage dispensers with infused water, lemonade, iced tea, and any other icy beverage to cut down on waste (and cost). Just make sure to display them on an easy-to-access and oh-so-aesthetic beverage station. Include graduation-themed stickers or chars to help guests tell their cups apart from others whenever they have to part with their glass to snap some pics.

The Spread

You’ve got smiles and drinks. It’s time for some good food. After all, we all know guests will be showing up to enjoy some free grub. Who doesn’t? Make it a memorable experience with graduation-themed toothpicks, plates, and even a banner.

Tablecloths are a great way to work in the colors of your grad’s next step, too, whether that’s a new job, university, or school. Match the tablecloths, napkins, plates, and more to give it a truly personalized touch. If your graduate doesn’t know what’s next for them, then theme the party after their favorite things! Pick their favorite colors and go wild.

Desserts and Favors

Remember to make room for your cake, cupcakes, donuts, and sweets. Plus, if you have favors for your partygoers, you can often work them in among the rest of the food. Why waste time chasing guests down? Everyone guaranteed to stop over at the dessert table, anyway.

Cards and Gifts

Graduation parties and open houses are a lot less structured than similar events. That means you’ll want to make an easy-to-find location for guests to drop off gifts, words of advice, and cards. Clearly label each location, and include a box for guests to slip their cards into. This helps make sure all of the cards are in one spot so you don’t have to worry about anything getting missed during the cleanup.

The Tent

With all these spring and summer graduations, chances are your guests will want to get outside. You’ll want to rent a tent that can hold up if there’s an unforeseen rain shower, provide shade, and fit all of your guests comfortably. Our team can help you find the perfect tent for your event. Oh, and we’ll even set it up and tear it down for you, too. After all, you’ve got a party to enjoy.
